大运河是中国历史文化的宝库,包括各种物质及非物质文化遗产。按文化遗产和运河的亲疏关系,运河文化遗产的空间分布划分为核心区、重心区和影响辐射区三个层次,各类遗产划分为核心遗产、关联遗产和影响遗产。运河遗产最基本特征是以运河为载体进行的交通运输活动,离开了航运这一迁徙和交流活动,运河文化遗产就成了无水之源、无本之木。近代以来,大运河文化遗产的大规模破坏主要是天灾人祸造成的,与航运没有关系,相反,断航之后失去维护加速了运河遗产的破坏。

The Great Canal is a great treasure of Chinese historical culture including material and non-material of all kinds,national highly-protected historical reservation,ancient capitals,historical cities of state-level and historical relics,which takes up great percentage of other historical relics in the country.According to the relationships between cultural heritage and the Canal,the distribution of the Canal cultural heritage can be divided into core area,center area and influential and radiate area.Cultural heritage of various kinds can be divided into core heritage,correlative heritage and influential heritage.As a carrier,the Canal heritage is mainly characterized by transportation without which the heritage would be like a tree without roots.Since modern times,great damage has been done mainly by natural and man-made disasters instead of water transportation.On the contrary,lack of maintenance after the discontinued transportation accelerates the damage of the heritage.
